Today the will of one spouse is enough to request a divorce. There is no need to prove a cause or obtain the other spouse's consent.

How long does it take?
If there is agreement on these points, the process can be relatively quick. When there is disagreement on custody, support or property, those issues are decided in a proceeding that can take several months.
